Hard
High evidence confidence · 94% evidence coverage
This score is driven most by exposure and self-sufficiency. Difficulty V2's separate time-limit modifier adds 0.15 points here and is capped at 0.70; a broad limit cannot erase extreme intrinsic demand. This is independent of the public Cutoff Pressure V2 band.
Course analysis
Expect sustained upland ground and meaningful climbing.
Climbing density
24.6m per km
A more useful comparison than total ascent alone: it shows how consistently the course asks you to climb.
Cutoff analysis
To finish inside 20h, the raw average required is 12:00 per kilometre (19:19 per mile), including every stop.
Cutoff pressure compares the published time limit with distance, ascent and verified course demands. Lower pressure does not mean the race is easy. Raw pace includes checkpoints, food stops, navigation errors and any sleep; it is not a pacing plan.
Who this suits
Better suited to runners with prior ultra, mountain or technical-terrain experience than to somebody choosing their first ultra.
3.2/10 suitability
Navigation
Route-finding is part of the challenge. Carry the required mapping tools and be able to use them in darkness and poor visibility.
Exposure & kit
Significant overnight running is likely for many entrants. Lighting, temperature management and sleep strategy can materially affect the outcome.
Personal race predictor
Use a previous result to estimate a realistic range for Saint Cuthbert’s Way Ultra 100K, your potential buffer and the biggest change in demand.
Practical detail

Latest verification
The organiser verifies open 2027 entry, the marketed 100K, 8,067ft ascent, 20-hour limit and 150-runner course-page cap. The race is fully marked, but its rules leave navigation responsibility with the runner. It is promoted for 10 July while the first overnight wave starts on 9 July, so both dates are retained. The checkpoint table totals about 103.3km.
Still unverified: entry price.
